Anak lelaki kepada pesara Felcra, yang disyaki dibunuh dengan cara dicampak dalam Sungai Padang Terap dekat Jitra, mengakui mengenali suspek sambil menyifatkan perbuatan mereka sangat kejam.

Muhammad Amir Hakimi Sabari, 25, berkata mengenali suspek iaitu kontraktor yang sedang membina rumah jiran di hadapan rumah bapanya sejak lima bulan lalu.

Saya kenal suspek yang melakukan perbuatan itu terhadap ayah dan tindakannya sangat keterlaluan dan kejam,

 katanya menurut Bernama.

Amir Hakimi hadir ke lokasi kejadian di Sungai Padang Terap untuk mendengar penerangan daripada polis berhubung operasi pencarian jasad bapanya oleh pihak berkaitan.

“Ayah sering bertembung dengan suspek kerana dia perlu lalu di hadapan rumah yang sedang dibina. Jadi, memang mereka selalu bertegur sapa dan berbual. Suspek bukan penduduk kampung ini, dia orang luar, dan ayah saya memang baik dengannya.

Perbuatan suspek terhadap ayah memang keterlaluan, sanggup mencampak ayah ke dalam sungai. Sedangkan ayah seorang yang sangat baik, kalau suspek minta buah belimbing pada waktu malam pun, ayah sanggup pergi petik dan beri padanya…saya tak sangka dia ada niat jahat,

 katanya.

Anak bongsu daripada tiga beradik itu berkata, apabila dimaklumkan mengenai perkembangan kes oleh polis, dia dan keluarganya berasa sangat sedih dan berharap jasad bapanya dapat ditemukan secepat mungkin.

“Selagi mayat ayah tidak dijumpai, kami akan terus melakukan solat hajat. Saya harap pihak yang melakukan pencarian ini dapat menemukan cara terbaik untuk mencari ayah saya, lebih-lebih lagi dengan keadaan banjir sekarang.

Saya sebagai anak lelaki perlu kuat demi keluarga. Kalau saya tumbang, semua akan runtuh. Ada beberapa maklumat yang saya ketahui, tapi saya tunggu dulu kenyataan daripada polis kerana bimbang tersilap kata,

 katanya.

Terdahulu, Ketua Polis Kedah Fisol Salleh mengesahkan Sabari Baharom, 62, dicampak ke sungai dalam keadaan tangan diikat dan mulut ditutup pita pelekat, namun jasad mangsa yang hilang sejak 4 Sept belum ditemui.

Maklumat itu diperoleh susulan penahanan suspek lelaki tempatan berusia 26 dan 38 tahun Jumaat lalu. - FMT

Rafizi tells why PH changed stance on Lynas

PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli has sought to explain Pakatan Harapan’s change in stance on Australian rare earths mining firm Lynas Corporation continuing its operations in Malaysia.

Rafizi said PH had opposed Lynas’s presence in the past as Malaysia had been made a dumping ground for waste by-products.

The company would bring in raw materials from Australia to be processed here, with the processed material sent back and waste by-products kept in Malaysia, he said.

We became a dumping ground and there was little added value from Lynas’s investment here,

 he said in the latest episode of his Yang Bakar Menteri podcast.

Before PH came to power as the federal government, there was no mineral mapping on the potential of rare earths nor any demand for the minerals.

At that time, did we want a foreign country to send hazardous minerals to Malaysia and turn (the country) into a dumping ground?

 he said. 

So when PH took over the government, we thought about how to ensure the country could gain worthwhile returns (from Lynas), and it was also around that time that the mineral mapping was being carried out,

 he said.

He was responding to Eric See-To, who questioned PH’s change in stance from the time Najib Razak was in power, when PH as the opposition party had claimed that Lynas operations were dangerous .

Rafizi said the PH government in 2019 made the controversial decision to allow Lynas to continue its operations in Malaysia. Its operating licence was renewed again in October last year, allowing the company to continue importing and processing rare earths until March 2026.

However, the extension hinges on Lynas’s compliance with ensuring that the thorium radioactive content in waste residue remains below a set threshold.

In June, science, technology and innovation minister Chang Lih Kang said the construction of Lynas’s permanent disposal facility was expected to be completed by the end of this year. - FMT

Make ‘Plan B’ if demand for Dewan seats not met, says Sabah man

Political leaders in Sabah and Sarawak have been urged to come up with an alternative plan in case Putrajaya snubs their demand for one-third of parliamentary seats to be allocated to East Malaysia.

I think Sabah and Sarawak should actively discuss a Plan B. If our demand is not met, we must already know what’s our next step,

 said Kenny Chua, deputy president of Parti Solidariti Tanahairku (STAR), the Borneo Post reported.

The 

next step

 must be aligned with the aspirations of East Malaysians, he said. Sabah and Sarawak leaders cannot assume that the federal government will in future hand them one-third of the decision-making power in the Dewan Rakyat.

He agreed with the view of Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg that East Malaysia must hold 35% of seats to guard against attempts to amend the Federal Constitution to revoke the provisions of the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Chua said that East Malaysians, as a minority in Parliament, must seriously take heed of the possibility of MA63 being revoked. 

We can either wait until god knows when our demands will be met or we can start exploring ways how we can be a few steps ahead,

 he was quoted as saying.

When Malaysia was formed in 1963, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore were allocated a total of 55 seats (or 34.5%) in the 159-member Dewan Rakyat. Singapore’s provision of 15 seats was eliminated in 1965 when the republic left Malaysia, leaving the Borneo states with a 27% share of the 144-seat house.

In 1973, when the Dewan Rakyat was expanded to 154 members, the extra seats were allocated to West Malaysian states and the federal territory while Sabah and Sarawak retained their 16 and 24 seats respectively (or 25.9%).

The current Dewan Rakyat comprises 222 members, with Sabah allocated 25 seats and Sarawak 31, for a combined 25.2% share.

In addition to the calls from Abang Johari and other political leaders for control of one-third of Dewan Rakyat seats, activist groups have backed a claim for East Malaysian control of more than one-third seats in the Senate (Dewan Negara).

The activists said the two states would then have veto power to block  any unilateral constitutional amendments by Peninsular Malaysia leaders. However, 11 organisations rejected the proposal earlier today, describing it as 

disingenuous

 and 

an insult to East Malaysians

Racial attacks in politics now at dangerous level, says PM

PETALING JAYA: 

Racial debates and attacks made in political statements, especially near elections, have now reached 

a very intense and dangerous level,

 Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said today.

Speaking at the launch of a national action plan against violent extremism, Anwar said anti-terrorism authorities must make an effort to understand the motives behind any terrorist act, as well as look into elements of incitement.

The prime minister also said security-related legislation must be improved, to ensure a more robust protection from outside elements and influences.

Anwar said the people must understand the action plan, especially as there were now those in the country who use racial elements to threaten the peace, Bernama reported.

I always say at my meetings, including those of the National Security Council, that sometimes we focus only on action against acts of terrorism and overlook elements of incitement,

 Anwar said.

The problem is our obsession with terrorism without understanding the issues. We deal with the problem of terrorism, but we don’t understand the reasons and background behind the activities.

The action plan for 2024-2028 was developed to coordinate actions to deal with the threat of extremist ideology based on four cores, namely prevention, enforcement, rehabilitation and reinforcement.

It emphasises the issue of the threat of extremist ideology of terrorism holistically, including political and racial extremists, social, religious as well as external elements.

Anwar said the authorities must work towards identifying the real motive behind every extremist ideology or terrorist attack.

Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who was at the launch of the action plan, said Malaysia’s plan is different from anti-terrorism plans of other countries because it takes a comprehensive look at understanding extremism, and takes into account several principles, policies, and values unique to Malaysia.

He said the plan includes a 

soft approach

 towards dealing with extremist ideology. - FMT
