Rice and chapati are equally important in our Indian cuisine. Rice and chapati are eaten at every meal. No matter what is in Indian cuisine, it is eaten with rice and chapati. For many years, people prefer chapati or rice? You may have heard of such duel. Also in many places there are debates about who is the best among them.

What to eat chapati or rice?

Chapati has high sodium-

There is not much distance between rice and chapati. Both have almost the same caloric value and nutritional value. If you look at the amount of nutrients in rice and chapati, the only difference is in the amount of sodium in chapati.

Chapati has higher sodium content than rice. 120 grams of wheat flour contains 190 milligrams of sodium. So rice has almost no sodium! According to doctors, if someone has an illness in which you are forbidden to take sodium, then you should eat rice instead of chapati!

Rice digests faster, chapati takes longer to digest! Chapati also helps control blood sugar levels. Rice is high in starch, so it is easy to digest. According to doctors, people who do not have a healthy stomach should eat rice.

This is not the case with chapati. According to doctors, people who want to lose weight should eat chapati instead of rice. It would be more appropriate to eat chapati. Eating chapati keeps the stomach full for a long time and also reduces appetite.

Ramasamy wants MITRA scrapped; PMX reminded his MGR stunts won’t win back Indian trust

 

IT IS boring and tiresome to hear from time to time whenever the situation warrants, Prime Minister Datuk SeriAnwar Ibrahim’s tireless efforts in addressing the woes of the Indian community.

Very recently, he envisages the establishment of training and vocational programmes to assist the Indian community through the efforts of the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA).

Various government agencies will be asked to look into the various social and economic problems in assisting the Indian community.

This is not the first time Anwar has said such things. He has said them in the past to the point that they don’t mean anything to the Indian community anymore.

Anwar’s appeasement remarks are always in view of arresting the fact of the fast-declining Indian support for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition channelled through DAP and PKR.

Whether Anwar knows it or not, Indian support started deteriorating after the state elections in 2023. The support fell one-half from the one-time high of 80% to 40% in the state elections.

No turning back

The purge and sidelining of prominent Indian leaders were among the reasons. In the recent Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections, Indian support took a further dip.

I think by the time of the 16th General Election GE16), PH will be devoid of Indian support. Given the PAS factor in the opposition coalition, Indians might simply stay away from voting or spoil their votes.

Anwar can talk endlessly about the beneficial social, technical and economic programmes for the Indian community. However, whether there will be tangible benefits remains to be seen.

Anwar can have the best of intentions but unfortunately, he has a low level of trust in the community. He has hurt and humiliated the community too many times.

Using the derogatory word “Keling” and describing the Hindu temples as “illegal” has destroyed the trust the community had in him.

Even his apology for using the word “illegal” in describing the temples is a bit too late and too little.

No Hindu or Indian of the right mind will forgive Anwar for the forceful re-location of a 130-year-old Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple in Jalan Masjid India to make way for the Madani Mosque in the Federal capital.

Indian sycophants in DAP and PKR might shamelessly sing praises of Anwar as the “Gandhi-Mandela of Malaysia”.

Unfortunately, Anwar being a political opportunist and chameleon comes nowhere near Gandhi or Mandela.

Serve no purpose

Back to the MITRA, it is said that funds for the training programmes for Indian youth would be channelled to the government agency dedicated to improving the socio-economic welfare of the Indian community, particularly the low-income B40 group.

I don’t understand why MITRA still exists in the first place.  It is a failed organisation as far as the Indian community is concerned.

The financial pittance accorded to MITRA is an insult to the intelligence of the Indian community. In brief, MITRA is a disgrace.

Editor’s Note: MITRA normally receives RM100 mil annually from the government with the exception of 2026 when PMX announced an extra RM50 mil, thus bringing the total 2026 budget to RM150 mil.

This funding boost marks the first major funding hike for the agency in over two decades.

Without the fundamental recognition of the inalienable rights of the Indian community, one that has sacrificed in blood and sweat for the development and progress of the country, there will be no progress for the community.

Anwar should stop pretending that he is the saviour or the MGR of the Indian community (M. G. Ramachandran, popular actor in Tamil cinema and former Tamil Nadu chief minister).

Indians have suffered and continue to suffer under his leadership. When Indians are not respected as citizens of the country, how can they attain progress?

I don’t want to touch on the subject matter of public employment in the country and its terribly skewed nature, let alone business and entrepreneurial opportunities.

How can government programmes assist the community when roadblocks are placed everywhere? Anwar should stop taking the Indian community for a long ride.

Apologies and occasional MGR stunts might not fool the community.

Zahid’s early GE16 call understandable – “UMNO is worried sick over ‘sakau’ busting, need to save own skin”

 

MADANI backers are apparently jeering at UMNO’s desperation for the next national polls to be expedited as they contended that “the rakyat is in no hurry” but only wish for “the government of the day to speed up prosecution of the kaki sakau (plunderers)” in the wake of the Tabung Haji scandal clamp down.

This follows the party’s president and Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi having given a clear signal that he would prefer the 16th General Election (GE16) held earlier than waiting until the end of the current parliamentary term (GE16 must be held before Feb 17, 2028).

In the contention of Zahid who is also the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM), while an early election would allow a new mandate from the rakyat to be obtained, BN is nevertheless prepared to face the consequences of the GE15 term continuing until the end of its term.

As the end of the day, BN’s stance on political cooperation is not on absolute ground because all decisions would be made based on the calculation of “benefits and harms”.

“For BN, politics is not simply a question of who is friend or foe but a question of who gives the best return to the party,” deduced a Facebook post by Malay language political site AM Daily.

After having shortchanged or backstabbed ally Pakatan Harapan (PH) by going solo in the Johor state election followed by forging new alliance with its old foe PAS in the name of ummah unity for the Negeri Sembilan state polls, it is little wonder that Madani backers are furious with the UMNO/BN antics.

Personally targeted

Aside from the rapid pace of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) getting to the bottom of the RM13 bil Tabung Haji financial mismanagement and governance failures during the Najib administration, Zahid has also been personally targeted over his 47 charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT), corruption and money laundering involving the Yayasan Akalbudi funds.

DAP lawmaker RSN Rayer has on yesterday (Sept 3) queried the Attorney-General (AG) as to why “some alleged corruption cases (are) pursued relentlessly while this particular (Zahid’s) case was brought to an end (despite it being a prima facie case)?

“If the government is serious about fighting corruption, there can’t be one standard for political opponents and another for political allies,” asserted the Jelutong MP in a media statement.

“I therefore call upon the AG to re-examine the decision concerning the 47 charges, publish as much of the legal reasoning and evidential basis as lawfully possible and – if the evidence and legal circumstances justify it – take the necessary steps to revive or otherwise pursue the matter in accordance with the law.”

In a wider context, Zahid or UMNO/BN’s call for early national polls is perceived as a last-ditch attempt to safe the skin of its president right down to its past and present top brass and cronies who have been implicated in graft or embezzlement of sorts.

Editor’s Note: The Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) is likely be the next agency to be investigated, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

This came after His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, told PMX who is also the Finance Minister that investigations into institutions owned by the rakyat should not end with the hajj fund board.

Another seemingly pro-Madani Malay language political site Unofficial Info ridiculed Zahid for “having wanting an early GE16 at a time when several big names in UMNO have come under the spotlight following probes and enforcement actions” in relation to the Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report.

“Of course, an investigation is not proof that someone is guilty but the legal process must be respected,” justified Unofficial Info.

But from a political perspective, the timing of Zahid’s statement is certainly eye-catching. As one after another politician from the party is on the investigation radar, the UMNO leadership wants to quickly enter the election ring.

This maybe coincidental but netizens will certainly ask – does UMNO want a new mandate or does it want to quickly bury the old episode?

Either this or could Zahid being impatient “to sit on the chair of Malaysian PM” as suggested by a Gen Z BERSAMA Threader.

“Personally, I never imagined Zahid would become the PM. But ethnic-based politics might enable this to become a reality,” he quipped.

Hadi urges PAS to defend seats won in previous polls

 PAS president also wants the party to expand its influence in Pahang, Perak and Selangor.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said the party should engage with swing voters via a targeted approach.

KOTA BAHRU:

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang today urged the party to defend the state and parliamentary seats it won in previous elections.

He also said that the Perikatan Nasional (PN)-led states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, and Perlis – collectively known as SG4 – should be retained.

PAS won 43 parliamentary seats in the 15th general election. It also won the lion’s share of state seats in Kelantan (37), Terengganu (27) and Kedah (21) in the 2023 state polls.

In Perlis, PAS has nine seats.

“These states must retain control, improve their governance and implement the Islamic agenda.

“Achievements must be communicated to the people and voters to counter attacks (by rivals),” Hadi said in his keynote speech at the PAS muktamar here.

He also urged the party to set its sights on Pahang, Perak and Selangor and “strengthen PAS and PN’s parliamentary representation” in those states as well as improve its performance in Melaka, which is expected to hold a state election soon.

PAS currently has one seat in Melaka: Rembia. This seat was won by Umno in the 2021 state election before its incumbent joined PAS.

The Islamic party previously announced its intention to contest 16 of Melaka’s 28 state seats, including Tanjung Bidara which is held by Melaka Barisan Nasional chairman Ab Rauf Yusoh.

Hadi also urged PAS to engage with swing voters via a targeted approach.

“The entire PAS machinery must work to penetrate areas with non-Muslim majorities and secure decisive votes in Muslim-majority areas by demonstrating its ability to champion the people’s interests and uphold good governance,” he said. - FMT
