Labourer pleads guilty to raping minor in Kelantan

 

A man has pleaded guilty at the Pasir Mas Sessions Court in Kelantan today to two charges of raping a female minor in August.

The accused, Che Rohaiza Che Rohim, 39, confessed to the crimes when the charges against him were read out by an interpreter in front of judge Badrul Munir Mohd Hamdy.

The accused, who worked as a labourer, was charged with raping a 15-year-old girl at a house in Kampung Bukit Kuin, Tanah Merah, Kelantan on Aug 28 and 29.

The accused was charged with an offense punishable under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code which stipulates imprisonment for up to 20 years and whipping.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Hajarul Falenna Abu Bakar, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer.

Earlier, Hajarul did not offer any bail to the accused in her prosecution.

Meanwhile, Rohaiza, in his appeal, sought the court's consideration to impose the lightest sentence.

However, the court adjourned the sentence against the accused to Sept 26 while waiting for the victim's medical report. - Mkini
