A Malaysian man who allegedly planned to join the Al-Shabaab terrorist group has been detained in Somalia.
Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah said Wisma Putra is keeping a close eye on the matter and will ensure the man’s welfare.
Saifuddin said officers from the Malaysian embassy in Sudan had visited the man to check on him.
“The Foreign Ministry will continue to monitor developments in this case and will offer the necessary aid to the man by ensuring that his rights and welfare are taken care of and that he is given a fair trial,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Saifuddin said Malaysia will respect Somalian laws.
He added that the ministry has contacted the man’s family. - Mkini
