MP disappointed cops questioning her for carrying out PAC duty

Kluang MP Wong Shu Qi is disappointed that police will be questioning her on the grounds that she allegedly participated in an unapproved rally.

Wong (above) said she was not present during the gathering of MPs outside Parliament on Aug 2 and had only gone to the august House to carry out her duty as a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) which had a meeting on that day.

The DAP lawmaker said police had contacted her for questioning on Sept 8 and will also be issuing a compound against her for allegedly attending the gathering.

"I was surprised by the police notice that I was allegedly involved in the gathering when I was not even at the claimed location nor involved in any gathering," she said.

Opposition MPs had gathered on Aug 2 in a bid to enter Parliament even though the Muhyiddin Yassin government at the time had imposed a lockdown.

Muhyiddin's government, which had since collapsed, was seen to be stalling the Parliament sitting but it had cited the Covid-19 pandemic as justification.

On that day, Wong said she had tried to drive to Parliament and furnished cops with a letter from the PAC but was denied entry.

The lawmaker said she was only allowed in after intervention from the PAC staff.

"Therefore, police are clearly aware of the list of PAC members who need to attend Parliament," she added.

Wong questioned if the police thought she was an anime character from the Japanese cartoon "Naruto" that could clone oneself.

"As an MP who is carrying out her duties, I am deeply disappointed and confused by the police investigation," she said. - Mkini
