Sabah marks record high Covid-19 deaths at 55

Today’s deaths bring Sabah’s death toll to 1,323.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah registered a record high of 55 Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, less than a week after the previous record of 41 deaths registered on Aug 27.

Of the 55 deaths, 29 were brought-in-dead cases, which included 11 foreigners, also a record high for the state.

Sabah local government and housing minister Masidi Manjun said most of the deaths occurred in Tuaran at 12, followed by Kota Kinabalu (10), Tawau (7), Sandakan (6), Lahad Datu (4) and Penampang (3).

He said Putatan, Keningau, Beluran and Papar each recorded two deaths while one death was recorded each in Kuala Penyu, Kalabakan, Tenom, Kudat and Kinabatangan.

This brings the death toll in Sabah to 1,323.

Masidi, who is Sabah’s official Covid-19 spokesman, said the state recorded 2,279 new daily infections in the last one day, bringing the state’s cumulative cases to 157,285.

He said 4,538 patients are currently receiving treatment, with 1,557 placed in hospitals, 2,914 at low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, 58 at temporary detention centres or prisons, and nine at private facilities.

“A total of 207 patients are under critical care comprising 126 at intensive care units or repurposed critical care units and 81 at open wards,” he said, adding that 81 of these patients needed ventilators. - FMT
