Selangor Crown Prince Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Idris Shah has denied any links to the current developer who has the rights to develop half of the Kuala Langat (North) Forest Reserve.
The rights are currently held by Gabungan Indah Sdn Bhd, a little-known company set up in November last year with a paid-up capital of RM1.
"In regard to the recent news on the Kuala Langat (North) Forest Reserve, some groups believe I am benefiting from such a decision.
"I would like to make my position clear. I have no link to Gabungan Indah or any development project in the reserve," Tengku Amir said in an Instagram post today.
While the prince has no links to Gabungan Indah, he was involved in a company that previously proposed to develop the Kuala Langat (North) Forest Reserve.
He was previously a director in Titian Jutaria Sdn Bhd, who together with Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) had proposed development at the reserve early last year.
However, both firms now appear to be out of the picture.
Companies Commission (CCM) records show that Titian Jutaria, which was set up in December 2018, has since been dissolved.
The proposed development of the Kuala Langat (North) Forest Reserve came under the spotlight again after the Selangor government revealed it had de-gazetted half of the reserve.
In his post today, Tengku Amir said he remained deeply concerned about the environment and how development impacts climate change.
"Going forward, I wish everyone to pursue the most ambitious path. Make it all our responsibility to protect and rehabilitate as much of this land.
"Empower and protect the community that exists there. Build a more sustainable community by having some empathy and foresight.
"Selangorians won't like seeing it go. We Malaysians want to do our part for this planet - to reverse our ecological mistakes and contribute positively to the environment," he said.
Following widespread backlash over the de-gazettement, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari was summoned by his party to explain the matter.
According to PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil, the menteri besar agreed to “postpone” the de-gazettement but Amirudin has yet to come forward to confirm the matter.
What is confirmed is that Amirudin has now been mandated by Selangor Pakatan Harapan to bring the matter to next Wednesday’s (Sept 8) state executive council meeting for more discussions.
The Kuala Langat (North) Forest Reserve is a peat swamp forest recognised as the habitat for the Malayan sun bear, Langat red fighting fish, the Selangor pygmy flying squirrel and meranti trees.
It is also a source of livelihood and food for the surrounding Temuan Orang Asli. - Mkini
