PETALING JAYA: Selangor will take appropriate “action” over the Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve in line with PKR’s stance on environmental protection, party president Anwar Ibrahim said today.
He said Selangor menteri besar (MB), Amirudin Shari, had met him for discussions on the issue. News of the state government’s decision to degazette 536.7ha of the forest reserve for a mixed development project led to mounting criticism and objections.
“We at PKR have heard the explanation by Amirudin recently. And two days later, the MB met me to discuss the same. I believe the MB and the state government will take action that is in line with the party policy over the preservation of the environment and forest reserves,” Anwar said in a statement.
The Selangor state government recently revealed that land at the forest reserve would be used for a mixed development project. Environmental NGOs and the Orang Asli community have demanded that the degazettement be cancelled.
Amirudin said later the matter would be discussed by the state executive council on Wednesday.
Earlier today, a pro-Anwar group Otai Reformis lodged a police report claiming the excised forest was sold to a party below market rates at RM3 per sq ft, when adjacent land was sold at RM110 per sq ft. - FMT
