Mydin Mart looted in Sri Muda, but boss Ameer is forgiving

The boss of retail chain Mydin today said he will turn a blind eye to flood victims who looted one of his stores.

Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd managing director Ameer Ali Mydin said a Mydin Mart branch in Taman Sri Muda was looted.

"I do not support the act of stealing. However, in times of emergency, perhaps they had no other choice and were forced to do so to survive.

"I sincerely menghalalkan (allow) them to do so (because their intentions) is to survive as supplies were slow to reach them and had no (bad) intentions," Ameer said in a statement today.

Ameer said losses at the store amounted to millions of ringgit.

However, he urged the public to pray that everyone will be safe from floods and the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Mydin Mart branch was among several convenience stores or small supermarkets that were looted in the Taman Sri Muda area.

According to witnesses, government coordinated supplies only arrived two days after flood waters rose to dangerous levels.

This had caused many to go hungry, forcing them to take drastic action.

The Klang Valley saw some of the worst floods in decades over the weekend. Several deaths have been reported. - Mkini
