Annuar to Zahid: Party loyalty doesn't mean individual loyalty

Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa has issued his own reminder to Umno leaders questioning the loyalty of others in the party after being criticised for his views that the "PAS leaks" document was something not unusual and did not need to be exaggerated.

Taking to Facebook, Annuar (above) said it was not the right move to question the loyalty of friends who had dedicated their lives to Umno's struggle.

"Loyalty to the party is very important.

"It is different from loyalty to an individual, which at times is perceived as loyalty to the party," the Ketereh MP said.

Annuar did not mention any names, but his remarks came a day after Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, urged Umno leaders not to "dance to the beat of their enemies" who are "full of tricks” and rebel against the party.

On Thursday, Zahid’s lawyer Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, lodged a police report on the 'PAS leak' document which contained allegations of interference in the judicial process.

‘Smiling while stabbing’

In his post, Annuar likened the questions on loyalty to someone "smiling while stabbing".

Annuar added that just as an individual cannot demand to be shown loyalty, any criticisms made towards an individual leader or certain actions taken is not a sign of disloyalty to the party.

"Often the party is used as a shield for personal actions. The party cannot be managed as an individual right.

"Going against the party's mandate, not upholding the party's trust, disobeying party's decisions, taking action without the knowledge of the party, lying to the party, these are all signs of disloyalty," he said.

"Party members use different ways to express their loyalty.

"These differences, when they appear, must be celebrated," said the former Umno secretary-general.

He added that attempts to question an individual's loyalty to Umno will only sow hate and weaken the party.

Annuar was removed from Umno’s top leadership last year as he was perceived as being too close to Umno rivals Bersatu and PAS. - Mkini
