Visitors must show ‘low risk’ on MySejahtera before entry, says KJ

 

Health minister Khairy Jamaluddin says visitors must still show their risk status from May 1.

PETALING JAYA: MySejahtera check-ins will no longer be required from May 1, but visitors must still use the app to show their risk status before entry, says health minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

“We no longer need to scan the QR code using the MySejahtera app, but it is still usable and required to show whether a person is ‘low risk’ or ‘high risk’ before entering the premises,” said Khairy in a TikTok video.

Some business owners said they were against the government’s move to make them check their visitors’ risk status on the MySejahtera app.

Two business leaders also spoke of the risk of people falsifying their status to gain entry.

Federation of Malaysian Business Associations’ vice-chairman Raymond Woo said people might cheat by showing a screenshot of a low-risk status.

“As shop owners, we will check, but the onus is on citizens to play their part,” he said. “It’s difficult for businesses to check if it is from the app or a screenshot.”

On Wednesday, when Khairy announced the lifting of the requirement, he also said premise owners would be required to check visitors’ risk status on the MySejahtera app.

He said shops must deny entry to those categorised as high-risk Covid-19 positive cases and those under quarantine. - FMT
