BN's win in Johor no guarantee of GE15 victory: Ex-MB

BN’s win in the Johor state election last month cannot guarantee a victory in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15), said Johor BN chairperson Hasni Mohammad.

He said BN needed to study many things and face challenges in its preparation for GE15, including ensuring that the promises and progress of Johor BN are monitored.

“For instance, the continued rising costs of goods, we are not sure if prices can be controlled or will drop by the end of the year.

“That also goes for (the approval) of Employee Provident Fund (EPF) withdrawals… if it’s a feel-good factor, in four of five months, it’s not a certain thing anymore,” he added.

The former Johor menteri besar was speaking to reporters after a Johor Umno Liaison Committee meeting in Johor Bahru yesterday.

Umno vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan, and Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi were also present.

Hasni (above), who is also the Johor Umno Liaison chairperson, was commenting on the chances of BN maintaining the momentum of its victory in Johor for GE15.

He also said that the performance of the 2022 Johor budget requires attention.

“We need to ensure that BN’s promises must be monitored and KPIs need to be set, in addition to the 2022 budget.

“With KPIs and specific monitoring of our promises and the budget’s performance, we are confident we can be better prepared to face the challenges of the upcoming election,” he added.

Johor Umno and the state government can strengthen their cooperation by establishing a coordinating committee, Hasni said, which should comprise four Johor Umno representatives and four state government representatives, who might be derived from the Johor state executive council.

He said Onn Hafiz also stated his commitment to consider the initiative to ensure better cooperation between the party and the government.

Incidentally, this meeting was the first for Onn Hafiz after his appointment as Johor menteri besar following the state election.
