A friend of mine who travels often to China on business says that there are few or no more bank robberies in China. With CCTVs everywhere (over 200 million TV cameras according to this video here) and the even more important facial recognition software the authorities in China are able to detect bank robbers and snath thieves within minutes of any crime being reported in an area.
Street crime has also almost disappeared because Chinese people DO NOT CARRY cash anymore. Everyone uses e-wallets and other electronic payments systems which has made paper currency almost extinct in China.
