Constitutional amendment tabling sign of healthier politics: PM

The tabling of the Constitution (Amendment) Bill (No 3) 2022 in Parliament to pave way for the Anti-Party Hopping Bill is a sign the country is moving to healthier politics, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

He expressed satisfaction with the cohesion shown by MPs at the special parliamentary sitting yesterday.

“Malaysia is moving towards political stability that is more mature, strong, and confident," Ismail Sabri (above) said in a post on Facebook.

The amendment to Article 10 of the Federal Constitution seeks to insert another clause, Clause 3A, after Clause 3.

This amendment is so that the proposed anti-party hopping bill will not be contrary to Article 10, which grants citizens freedom of association.

The Dewan Rakyat also approved a motion to set up a Special Select Committee to provide recommendations on the Federal Constitution amendment relating to the restrictions for elected representatives to switch parties.

The committee, comprising 11 government and opposition MPs, will be chaired by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
