Covid-19 (April 21): 5,899 new cases, 5 deaths

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 5,899 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 4,415,101.

Active cases currently stood at 88,185, down 44.3 percent compared to 14 days ago. Correspondingly, the R-number has declined to 0.81 yesterday.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (3,579)
Kuala Lumpur (649)
Perak (301)
Negeri Sembilan (249)
Johor (214)
Penang (193)
Sarawak (151)
Kedah (126)
Malacca (112)
Sabah (85)
Pahang (61)
Terengganu (60)
Putrajaya (60)
Kelantan (25)
Perlis (20)
Labuan (14)


Another five deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which four were declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 12.7 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 31.2, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

The number of new daily reported deaths has not been this low since Jan 29.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,470 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 487 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 2,235 deaths last month and 770 deaths in February.

The five deaths were reported in Selangor (3), Sabah (1) and Sarawak (1).

There are 1,649 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 92 are in intensive care - the lowest since Oct 10, 2020.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (148) followed by Johor (103) and Sarawak (57). - Mkini
