Covid-19 (April 24): 4,006 new cases, lowest since Jan 24

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 4,006 new Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative infections to 4,431,073.

This represents the lowest total since Jan 24 when 3,214 cases were reported.

Active cases stood at 74,753, down 44.4 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (2,281)
Kuala Lumpur (439)
Negeri Sembilan (261)
Penang (179)
Perak (170)
Sarawak (112)
Johor (111)
Kedah (105)
Malacca (87)
Putrajaya (72)
Pahang (65)
Sabah (60)
Terengganu (35)
Kelantan (20)
Perlis (7)
Labuan (2)

Another eight deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, none of which were declared as 'brought in dead'.

Over the past week, an average of 11.1 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 26.1, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, Covid-19 has caused a total of 35,499 deaths.

There have been 516 Covid-19 deaths reported this month. For comparison, there were 2,235 deaths last month and 770 in February.

The state with the highest number of deaths was Selangor (2) followed by Johor (1), Malacca (1), Pahang (1), Sarawak (1), Terengganu (1) and Kuala Lumpur (1).

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 1,071 deaths per 1 million population, and the fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

There are 1,627 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised, of whom 98 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (172) followed by Johor (92) and Sabah (62). - Mkini
