PEKAN: The foreigner who attacked two policemen before setting a police mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) on fire near a "matau" (timber collection centre) at Kampung Selengkong in Nenasi yesterday, has been arrested.
Pekan district police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the Indonesian logging worker who was in his 30s was detained by policemen not far from the timber collection centre about 4.20pm today.
"Police recovered a hammer and a piece of wood from the suspect. He will be produced in court tomorrow for the remand application," he said in a statement today.
It was reported earlier today that police had launched a manhunt for the suspect who had gone into hiding after he ran amok and attacked two policemen during the 11.30pm incident.
The suspect had set the police MPV on fire when he threw a burning object towards the vehicle before running into the nearby jungle. - NST
