GE15: Salang leaves nomination issue to PRS, GPS to decide

The new president of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Joseph Salang Gandum is leaving it to the party’s top leadership and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to decide whether or not he may contest in next 15th general election.

He said even though he is now the president of PRS, it does not mean he can decide for himself over the matter.

“I’m a member of the party and if they think I’m a winnable candidate, maybe they’ll nominate me. We can only plan, but we do not know when the 15th general election will be called,” he told reporters after attending the 5th PRS Triennial Delegates Conference dinner in Sibu yesterday.

Salang was the elected presentative for Julau parliamentary seat from 1999 to 2018 and has served as a member of the federal government’s administration as deputy foreign minister, deputy energy, water and communications minister, as well as deputy information, communication and culture minister.

During the 14th general election, he failed to retain the seat when he lost to independent candidate Larry Sng Wei Shien.
