How to get additional Covid-19 shots if you are eligible

 

Following the announcement that several groups will be eligible for additional Covid-19 vaccine shots, the Health Ministry has now revealed in a statement today the mechanism for dispensing these shots.

The first group, which the government previously announced, are individuals above 60 years of age with high-risk comorbidities, who will have the option of getting a second Covid-19 booster shot four to six months after their first booster dose.

The method and location of dispensing the second booster shot for this group will consist of:

I. Appointment system through MySejahtera

Individuals from this group will start receiving booking links in stages starting April 22 via the MySejahtera app. They may use the link to make an appointment at listed vaccination centres (PPVs).

II. Dispensation at government or private hospitals designated as PPVs

Individuals who are receiving treatment at government or private hospitals that are operating as PPVs can receive their second booster shot there.

For hospitals not functioning as PPVs, the attending specialist will have to conduct a pre-vaccination assessment before referring the patient to a hospital operating as a PPV.

III. Walk-in at PPVs

Any individual fulfilling the criteria for the above group can walk into any operating PPV without an appointment.

If necessary, a medical officer will perform the pre-vaccination assessment and refer the patient to the nearest hospital operating as a PPV.

IV. Outreach activity in senior citizen centres

Senior citizen centres can request to get a second booster shot from nearby health district offices.

The second group eligible for additional vaccine shots are adolescents aged 12 and above who are moderately or severely immunocompromised.

They will be eligible for their first booster dose, which can be administered after at least 28 days since their second dose.

The method and location of dispensing the first booster dose to this group will consist of:

I. Individuals currently under treatment at government or private hospitals, or clinics, that are operating as PPVs, can receive the additional dose.

II. For health facilities not operating as PPVs, the attending specialist will conduct the pre-vaccination assessment and refer the patient to a hospital or clinic designated as a PPV.

III. Other eligible adolescents can meet with health professionals to undergo the pre-vaccination assessment and receive a referral to a health facility operating as a PPV.

The third group are individuals aged 18 and above who are keen on travelling overseas.

They are eligible to receive their second booster dose after at least one month from their first booster dose, in order to fulfil the conditions of their destination country.

These individuals can walk into any operating PPVs without an appointment, as long as they bring along relevant supporting documents, such as proof of travel and flight tickets. - Mkini
