GEORGE TOWN: M Indira Gandhi can only imagine how her long-lost daughter Prasana Diksa will look like today – her 14th birthday.
She last saw Prasana briefly when she was about 18 months old in 2010 at a court hearing, seven months after being hidden away by her former husband Muhammad Riduan Abdullah, previously known as K Pathmanathan, in the midst of a custody battle.
Riduan converted Prasana to Islam, without Indira’s consent, in 2009 when she was just 11 months old.
“Prasana is 14 years old today. I think she will probably look like her elder brother. Or perhaps she may have taken after me.
“She must be a beautiful girl now. I wish I could buy her a gift.
“I’ll wait for you, Prasana, until my last breath,” she told FMT.
Indira, 46, recalled how she consulted a Hindu priest who suggested her daughter be named Prasana, which means “rising” in Sanskrit.
She hoped that she would continue to embody the name she had given her.
Indira said she was still disappointed that police had failed to recover her daughter despite a court order 13 years ago.
“On her birthday, perhaps the Islamic bodies or whoever known to her can convey my happy birthday greetings to her.
“The more I talk about her these days, I feel like crying,” she said.
When FMT contacted her, Indira was on her way to Kuala Lumpur to enrol her eldest child, Karan Dinish, 24, in a college to study law. She has another daughter, Tevi Darsiny, 25.
“Karan has decided to take up law to defend mummy and fight injustice,” she said.
The Federal Court had in 2016 instructed the inspector-general of police to execute the warrant of committal against Indira’s husband after finding him guilty of contempt by refusing to hand over Prasana.
Recently, Parliament heard that Riduan had bought two cars seven years ago. This led to an opposition MP asking about the police commitment to search for Prasana and Riduan. - FMT
