SEREMBAN: The sessions court here sentenced a road transport department (JPJ) officer today to 14 days’ jail and RM17,500 fine, in default three months’ jail, for corruption.
Judge Rushan Lutfi Mohamed handed down the sentence on motor vehicle inspection officer Najmi Zakaria, 38, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
He was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of arrest, March 28.
Najmi was charged with soliciting RM3,500 from a company owner as an inducement not to take action over eight vehicles that were found not in compliance with a notice issued under Section 61 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The offence was committed here between Feb 13, 2018 and May 31, 2019.
MACC deputy public prosecutor Azriff Firdaus Ali prosecuted, while Asmawi Ismail represented Najmi. - FMT
