PETALING JAYA: A PAS leader said his party will respect Umno’s decision should it decide to go solo in the next general election (GE15).
PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said he hoped both parties would be able to contest in a “gentlemanly” way and not resort to personal attacks during the campaign period.
He also said that the party applauded the statement by Kelantan Umno chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, who had asked party branches in the state to abstain from organising campaigns and ceramahs that insult PAS leaders and its members.
“The approach (taken by Ahmad Jazlan) should be welcomed since it is good for the ties between both parties. That is good advice,” Harakahdaily quoted Amar as saying.
“For a very long time, we (PAS) have never said anything (bad) about Umno, whereas you have leaders who have said that PAS has ‘tiga jahanam’ (three dastardly fellows),” he said after attending an exco meeting in Kota Darul Naim, Kelantan.
Amar also said PAS would welcome Umno with open arms if it decided to keep the Muafakat Nasional alliance intact for the benefit of the country. - FMT
