MCMC calls up those involved in Aliff’s controversial Raya video

 

Scenes from the music video Kelepok Raya, which has been criticised as being unsuitable for public viewing during Ramadan.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is to interview people involved in a controversial Hari Raya music video by cosmetics entrepreneur Aliff Syukri Kamarzaman.

Those involved have been sent notices to show up at MCMC headquarters in Cyberjaya tomorrow morning, said communications minister Annuar Musa.

He said a preliminary study showed there were reasons for an investigation to be conducted, and an investigation paper had been opened.

The music video entitled Kelepok Raya had drawn criticism for showing a group of male dancers wearing make-up and displaying effeminate behaviour. It was said to be unsuitable for public consumption, especially during Ramadan.

Annuar said the ministry had received complaints from the Prime Minister’s Department and especially from Jakim, the Islamic development department, and others.

Radio Malaysia closes Tagalog station

Annuar said the Cabinet had agreed that RTM’s Tagalog-language radio station should be closed as it could no longer be effective and the number of listeners were dwindling.

The Tagalog station was for the convenience of some residents in Sabah and the southern Philippines. However, the usual FM broadcast in Sabah was deemed adequate and the national and local languages effective enough on existing radio channels, he said. - FMT
