Motorists with arrest warrants to be rounded up during special police ops

Police have advised motorists with outstanding summonses and arrest warrants to pay up to enjoy a trouble-free festive period.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will round up road users with arrest warrants against them during Ops Selamat, to be held from this Friday until May 8 during the Raya festive period.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said those detained during the 10-day operation would be brought to the nearest police station for further action to be taken.

Motorists with pending summonses should immediately settle them, Sinar Harian quoted him as saying during the launch of Ops Selamat 18 at Menara TM today.

Razarudin also said police would optimise the usage of the “In-Car-Radar” equipment in their patrol vehicles on the highways throughout Ops Selamat 18.

“The radar allows all police patrol cars to detect vehicles involved in past criminal activities and those wanted by police.”

He added that the iCOPS camera system would also be widely used to detect traffic offenders with overdue summonses and traffic warrants during the operation.

Ops Selamat 18, held together with Telekom Malaysia, is also aimed at reducing burglaries during the festive season. - FMT
