MySJ deal won’t wait for PAC report – Khairy

The government will not wait for the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) report before concluding a deal on the MySejahtera application.

This is despite the PAC chairperson Wong Kah Woh’s call on the government not to make such a decision before the report is tabled and debated in Parliament.

“The Health Ministry’s decision to sign the contract is not subject to the PAC report. The sooner we conclude the contract so there is certainty, the better it is for all parties,” he told a press conference in Putrajaya today, which was also broadcasted live.

The PAC is currently investigating the development and procurement process of the MySejahtera application and is expected to table its report in the Dewan Rakyat in July.

Meanwhile, the government is pursuing a contract on the application after it was initially developed and deployed without one.

Wong had urged the government to take account of the views of the report and MPs participating in the debate before “taking a decision involving financial implications in the issue of the application development”.

On a related matter, Khairy said MySejahtera will continue to be improved with new features in line with Malaysia’s transition-to-endemic phase of the Covid-19 pandemic.

For a start, the application’s hotspot tracking feature that is used to track Covid-19 hotspots will be changed into an “Infectious Disease Tracker”.

It will display hotspots of other infectious diseases such as rabies, measles, hand food and mouth disease, and dengue.

The ministry’s director-general will also be reducing the frequency of his Covid-19 reports, which is issued every morning.

“From now on, there will be no daily press releases from the director-general on the Covid-19 situation. I will only be issuing weekly reports on the Covid-19 status from now on,” he said. - Mkini
