No assessment rate hike in Selangor for now

The Selangor government will not approve the increase in local government assessment rates for now.

In a statement today, state exco member in charge of local government and public transportation Ng Sze Han (above) said an increase in rates would burden the people at a time when many are recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, he explained that the ongoing valuation review by the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) was done in accordance with procedure, while noting that the current valuation was based on 1985 figures.

"The MPKj will take into account all objections by residents within their jurisdiction. On the matter of reevaluation, MPKj has prepared various means for property owners to raise objections.

"It must be stressed that the enforcement date of the new valuation has not been decided by the state government," said Ng.

He added that the state government's priority now was to stimulate the economy to help its recovery.

According to the Sin Chew Daily report published today, some Kajang folks have reported that the reevaluation of properties by MPKj saw assessment rates for some property owners going up by 34 percent. - Mkini
