PKR polls: Farhash seeks to unseat Amirudin in Gombak due to 'trust issues'

Earlier this year, Perak PKR chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak decided to leave behind all his party positions in the state in a bid to contest in Gombak against the incumbent division chief Amirudin Shari, who also heads the Selangor PKR.

Less was known then of his motive to challenge the Selangor menteri besar whose loyalty to the party is often questioned by Anwar loyalists due to his previous association with Azmin Ali, a former PKR deputy president who had since defected to Bersatu.

The former aide to PKR president Anwar Ibrahim revealed that his main mission to go head-on with Amirudin was because of trust issues.

While he did not deny Amirudin's contributions to the party, Farhash said he simply does not trust the man.

"The menteri besar is a central figure in Selangor. I'm not taking anything away from what he's done for the party, the Gombak division and the state.

"He's done some good work, but for me, it's a matter of trust. If you ask me for my personal opinion, I don't trust him," he said in an interview with the news portal Free Malaysia Today.

According to Farhash, his mission in Gombak was not only about challenging Amirudin.

He claimed that the main aim was to strengthen PKR's chances in Selangor in facing the upcoming 15th general election.

Farhash added that he wants to "clean up" the Gombak division, saying that it had been left in disarray after Azmin and many of his followers left for Bersatu.

The candidate claimed that his decision to contest in Selangor was made after discussing with the party's leadership.

Farhash said Amirudin, however, has nothing to worry about if he does have strong support from the party grassroots in Gombak.

Last month, Farhash in an interview with Malaysiakini, said he aims to purge the Gombak PKR division of traitors.

He described Gombak as a stronghold of traitors who torpedoed both the Harapan government and Anwar's ascension as prime minister.

Farhash is also running for the vice-president post in the party election, which is scheduled to be held next month. - Mkini
