The man who died in the Kajang lock-up on Wednesday was not injured, a postmortem examination by Hospital Kajang found.
Bukit Aman's Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (Jips) said the postmortem was conducted on April 14
However, the cause of death is still unknown, and samples have been taken for further laboratory analysis and examination, Jips director Azri Ahmad said.
The deceased, the 15th death in custody this year, also tested negative for Covid-19.
The 45-year-old was held in remand at the Kajang centralised lock-up for a drug offence.
Yesterday, Azri said personnel at the lock-up contacted the hospital as they believed the detainee was experiencing a seizure.
He died on the way to the hospital.
The case is classified as "sudden death" while investigations for the cause of death continue, and the findings will be turned over to the coroner, Azri added.
Last week, police declared no foul play in the death of a detainee in Pahang on April 9.
He was found to have died of Covid-19 and complications related to tuberculosis, police said.
However, NGO Eliminating Deaths And Abuse In Custody Together (Edict) said it is premature for the police to make such conclusions before an inquest is held by the coroner. - Mkini
