Selangor MB office orders Kuala Langat forest to be regazetted

The Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve is set to be regazetted, according to the Selangor Menteri Besar's office in a statement today.

"The state government has ordered the state Land and Mines Department and the state Forestry Department to regazette the Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve promptly," it said.

The area in question includes 42.05 hectares and the alignment of the Sungai Rasau water treatment plant pipeline route covering 8.58 hectares.

In total, the area to be regazetted will be approximately 486.07 hectares of land.

On March 25, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari gave his assurance that the Kuala Langat Forest Reserve will be regazetted before Hari Raya Aidilfitri - which is in the first week of May.

He said that 97 percent of the area will be regazetted as a forest reserve, while the remaining three percent would be allocated to the Orang Asli.

In December last year, Amirudin had declared that the Selangor government was aiming to regazette the Kuala Langat (North) forest into a permanent reserve by the first quarter of 2022 - with the promise that the regazettement would cover "easily 90 percent" of the original gazette plan.

The Selangor government had degazetted 54 percent or 536.7 hectares of the Kuala Langat North forest as a permanent reserve last May to make room for development.

It reversed the decision after heavy backlash from the public. - Mkini
