Source: Scandal-hit TV drama won't be aired for now

Local TV drama ‘Perempuan Itu’ which gained some notoriety following a risque teaser, will not be hitting the screens anytime soon.

A source close to television network TV3 told Malaysiakini that the unreleased drama will not be aired this month as originally planned.

The source also declined to comment when asked if there are plans for it to be released in the near future.

‘Perempuan Itu’, starring Zul Ariffin, Mimi Lana and Siti Hariesa, was initially set to be released on TV3 in April during the fasting month of Ramadan.

However, there was public uproar and a probe into leading actor Zul under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act over his sharing of a risque teaser clip from the show on his social media.

The 23-second teaser clip of a "sexually suggestive" nature was a scene from the drama 'Perempuan Itu' where Zul is pushed against a wall by Siti Hariesa before he takes off his shirt and is seen embracing her.

That scene is interspersed with another scene where Siti Hariesa - dressed in a maid's outfit - feeds whipped cream to Zul before he lifts her up and embraces her.

The clip was initially uploaded to Zul's social media but is no longer available on the actor's Instagram.

Previously, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Idris Ahmad criticised the scene.

Idris, who is from the socially conservative PAS party, had described the teaser video of the drama ‘Perempuan Itu’ as stepping over the line.

Following backlash from politicians and the public alike, Zul has since issued a public apology over the uploaded scene. - Mkini
