Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim is putting his lawyers at the disposal of the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry for the trial of an abuse case involving a teenager with Down syndrome known as Bella.
Tunku Ismail said he would contact its minister Rina Harun for that purpose.
"I have contacted and discussed with my lawyers about the Bella abuse case. The case is ongoing in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court and the government prosecution has already started the trial against the accused in this case.
"I will contact Rina and offer the services of my lawyers for free to conduct a watching brief on behalf of the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development for this case," he said in a post on Facebook, yesterday.
The founder of Rumah Bonda Siti Bainun Ahd Razali is currently on trial on two charges of neglecting and abusing the girl, causing the victim to suffer physical and emotional injuries.
The case received attention and debate on social media, partly due to Siti Bainun being represented by 10 lawyers in the case.
Earlier, Tunku Ismail's wife, Che Puan Khaleeda Bustamam expressed sympathy for Bella's fate.
“I will do anything with the power I have to get justice for Bella.
“I am frustrated and tired of seeing cowards who think they can do anything against these helpless children.
"You can hide behind an army of lawyers but karma will be present in this world and the hereafter," she said via a post on Instagram. - Mkini
