PETALING JAYA: A toddler has died of injuries believed to have been caused by abuse, police said today. Her mother and stepfather are now under investigation for murder.
Kedah police chief Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said a post-mortem examination revealed that the girl died from abdominal injuries believed to be caused by abuse.
The girl, the youngest of three siblings, had died two hours before being taken to hospital. She had also suffered from asthma and skin disease, Utusan Malaysia reported.
Wan Hassan said the 26-year-old mother, who is unemployed, had married a 22-year-old man four months ago. The couple tested negative for drugs but the man had a prior record for motorcycle theft.
They have been remanded for seven days. - FMT
