KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor branch of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested two people aged 47 and 55 over invoices with false details amounting to RM80,000.

Sources said the 47-year-old male suspect who is identified as a technical director of an information technology company, is believed to have submitted an invoice involving electrical wiring work to a school in 2020.

It is believed that the wiring works were not carried out.

According to the source, he committed the offence together with the 55-year-old female who is a civil servant working at the school.

The source said the two individuals were arrested when they turned up at the Selangor MACC office to assist in the investigation. Remand orders will be sought against them tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Selangor MACC director Datuk Alias Salim, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case was being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

Meanwhile, two men claimed trial at the Shah Alam Sessions Court today to misappropriating credit notes amounting to more than RM1 million.

Lim Seng Khai, 43, faces 84 charges under Section 403 of the Penal Code over 84 credit notes belonging to Build Technology Supply Sdn Bhd amounting to RM1,278,939, while Hoo Hai Seoang @ Lawrence Hoo, 53, faces six charges under the same section over six credit notes belonging to the same company amounting to RM49,843.50.

Lim is a former senior product manager of the company while Hoo is its former general manager.

Judge Rozilah Salleh set bail at RM80,000 with one surety for Lim and RM10,000 with one surety for Hoo.

The court also ordered both suspects to hand over their international passports to the court and report to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya at the beginning of each month. The case is set for remention on June 23.

Section 403 of the Penal Code provides for imprisonment of up to five years and whipping, as well as a fine, upon conviction. - FMT
