PETALING JAYA: A DAP man has questioned Sabah PKR chief Christina Liew over her lack of presence as Tawau MP.
Tawau DAP youth chief Thien Ee Hang claimed that Liew was absent on the ground in her constituency and had also missed many Dewan Rakyat sittings.
Citing the MyMP website which claimed that she attended 24 of 79 Dewan Rakyat sittings, Thien said Liew’s alleged tendency of being absent was a matter of concern as the 15th general election was approaching.
“This is worrying as it will affect the public’s confidence in Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the upcoming 15th general election,” he said in a statement.
Thien said MPs had a duty to raise local issues and recommend policies to the ruling party of the day to improve the livelihood of their constituents.
However, he said Liew had only submitted two questions regarding Tawau in Parliament.
“In comparison, the Kota Kinabalu MP had tabled 16 questions regarding Kota Kinabalu. This major difference is alarming.
“I would like to remind Liew of her duties and mandate given to her by the locals of Tawau in 2018.”
Thien said leaders must not be afraid of criticism and always listen to what the people have to voice out.
He said DAP and PKR had been allies for decades and reminded Liew to not lose her focus and regain the confidence of voters.
“We want PH to win together, not only in Kota Kinabalu, Tenom and Sandakan but also Tawau and all other seats nationwide,” he said.
The Star reported that Liew had explained that she had been quarantined twice due to Covid-19 and hospitalised twice after falling ill over the past year.
She said it was best for Sabah DAP chairman Frankie Poon to provide an explanation on the matter. - FMT
