Wisma Putra identifies individuals in viral audio clip

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has identified the individuals in the audio recording of a conversation between a man, supposedly a ministry official, and a ‘Datin’ about alleged problems faced by Wisma Putra.

The one who recorded the audio clip has since been called in to assist in the ministry’s internal investigations into the matter.

“The individual has made a full admission that the recording was done by the individual themselves and that the individual known as ‘Datin’ was an officer to a former foreign affairs minister before the Pakatan Harapan or the Perikatan Nasional administration,” Wisma Putra said in a statement today.

As a police report has been lodged over this matter and it involves someone outside of the ministry, Wisma Putra said it will hand over its internal investigation report to the police for further action.

Previously, the ministry had dismissed the content of the audio clip as “baseless accusations”, after the recording had gone viral on social media.

They had then lodged a police report to protect the ministry’s image and interests.

The audio recording had claimed, among others, that many important positions at Malaysian missions overseas had been left vacant without replacement.

These allegedly include several embassies or High Commissions being left without a head of mission.

The man also spoke about two diplomats being recalled, which is believed to be referring to a recent case involving Malaysia’s mission to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Malaysia’s ambassador to the UAE Tarid Sufian and Malaysia’s consul-general in Dubai, Hasril Abdul Hamid, were recalled over the lack of “official guest status” during Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s visit to the country. - Mkini
