MACC chief Azam Baki will hold a meeting with Transport Minister Anthony Loke to elaborate on the alleged misconduct by staff of an agency under the ministry.
He said an appointment will be made with Loke (above) in the near future.
“I am ready to explain the issues in detail about the reports that were not acted upon.
“The report is related to the MACC’s recommendations regarding the misconduct of government officials in a department or ministry.
“What I stated about the 500 statistics (reports) were from previous years, when the reports were not taken seriously by most departments,” Azam was quoted saying by Berita Harian.
He said this at Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof’s Aidilfitri open house in Putrajaya today.
Azam previously said that 500 misconduct reports were gathering dust as some government agencies were not acting on them. This is despite the commission recommending that the agencies address the issues.
Based on statistics, of the 533 reports, the majority concerned the police with 125. Coming in second was the Road Transport Department.
Reports on misconduct also involved the courts, the Prime Minister's Office, religious authorities, hospitals and health departments, and universities.
Responding to Azam’s remarks, Loke said his ministry, which oversees the Road Transport Department, would extend its full cooperation.
Loke also vowed that immediate action would be taken in cases where there is sufficient evidence of misconduct. - Mkini
