PETALING JAYA: The Melaka magistrates’ court has sentenced a husband and wife to 12 months’ jail for stealing 20 boxes of baby formula worth over RM6,000 at a supermarket in February.
Azlee Ibrahim, 39, and Noor Bayah Ab Manaf, 31, pleaded guilty before magistrate Mazana Sinin after the charge was read out to them.According to Kosmo, the offences were committed between 5pm and 7.45pm at the Aeon shopping mall in Melaka Tengah on Feb 13.
Deputy public prosecutor Ehsan Nasaruddin had asked the court to impose a heavier sentence as the offence was not committed out of desperation.
The couple reportedly had a record of committing similar offences in other states and then selling the formula milk to others.
Their lawyer, Izzuddin Ab Malik, asked for the court to allow the jail sentence to commence from the date of their arrest, which was on Feb 16.
He also said the couple had four children, while Noor Bayah was three months pregnant.
Mazana ordered their jail sentence to commence from the date of their arrest. - FMT
