'Datuk Roy', MACC officer to be charged tomorrow

A man known as ‘Datuk Roy’ and an MACC officer are set to be charged at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow.

When contacted this afternoon, the man’s counsel Fahmi Abd Moin confirmed that ‘Datuk Roy’ (above) and the antigraft watchdog officer would be charged under Sections 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

The provision deals with the offence of soliciting or receiving or agreeing to receive for himself or any person any gratification as inducement or reward for any person to do anything in respect of any matter or transaction to take place.

Fahmi added that his client and the MACC officer would face two charges before Sessions Court judge Azura Alwi, while ‘Datuk Roy’ would also face another charge before Sessions Court judge Suzana Hussin.

On March 13, the man surrendered himself to MACC to assist the agency’s investigation into the Jana Wibawa scheme.

He was then subjected to a series of remand orders by the magistrate’s court to facilitate the MACC probe into the Jana Wibawa programme.

The authorities have thus far charged three politicians - including former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan - in connection with the Jana Wibawa scheme.

The Jana Wibawa scheme was launched in 2020 as a means of helping bumiputera contractors who were suffering during the Covid-19 pandemic. - Mkini
