Energy commission forms task force to monitor Sabah electricity supply

The Energy Commission will establish a task force specifically to monitor and coordinate electricity supply operations in Sabah tomorrow.

Its chief executive officer Razib Dawood said the state statutory bodies such as the Energy Commission of Sabah, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), Petronas and other related agencies would be part of the task force, which will be chaired by the commission.

"The task force will monitor operations round-the-clock daily, the balance between demand and production, and reserve margins to ensure continuous stable electricity supply to customers,” he said at a media conference at the SESB Electricity Distribution Centre in Penampang today.

Razib said the task force’s formation was an effort to boost the electricity supply reserve margin in the state to a set level, adding that the cause of the drop in reserve margin in the state was the use of electricity in peak hours between 11am and 3pm and from 7pm to 9pm.

Therefore, incentives for generator use by consumers and customers during peak hours will be improved based on the scheme set by SESB.

"For those without generators, they are encouraged to operate outside of peak hours and we will provide incentives, such as discounts, but this will be detailed tomorrow, and if agreed, we will finalise it as soon as possible to avoid electricity rationing,” he added.
