KLUANG: The Johor Health Department has confirmed that the 12-year old boy who died yesterday was due to 'septic shock secondary to meningoencephalitis' and not heat stroke.
Johor Health Director Dr Mohtar Pungut @ Ahmad said the child was admitted to the ward due to convulsions after a high fever the day before and had symptoms of coughing for three days.
"The department first expresses its condolences to the victim's family.
"The results of the investigation carried out at Hospital Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom here found that the child's death was confirmed as 'septic shock secondary to meningoencephalitis' and it is not related to heat stroke as previously reported.
"The department requests the cooperation of all parties not to make any speculations, which may cause confusion to the public," he said in a statement.
The boy's father, Syahrol Azmi Mohd Hekak, 42, said his second son Airiel Syahren Syahrol, 12, was confirmed dead by doctors at 7am yesterday.
He said his son, the second of four siblings, showed symptoms of having fever without sweating, muscle cramps, vomiting, constant urination and passing motion at around 10pm on Sunday night.
He said the doctor explained that his son had symptoms of heat stroke which had affected his kidneys and that he had brain inflammation. - NST
