Loke, Chow in the dark over Guan Eng for Penang CM plot

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke claimed to be in the dark over internal machinations aimed at returning party chairperson Lim Guan Eng to the Penang chief minister’s office.

He said it might possibly just be rumours.

“I have not received any confirmation, maybe it is just rumours.

“It said that there are three (Penang DAP) assemblypersons (involved), but I have not received any memorandum or letter from any assemblypersons (on this matter),” Loke (above) told reporters in Putrajaya today.

Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that three DAP assemblypersons in Penang were among dissenting voices who wanted Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow replaced by his predecessor, Lim, due to allegedly weak leadership.

Malaysiakini has retracted the article after discovering certain errors in the report based on the meeting with the three assemblypersons.

Chow told China Press that he, too, was dark on the matter.

“I don’t know who the assemblypersons are, they did not express their dissatisfaction to me,” he was quoted as saying by the Chinese daily.

Chow added that the best he can wish for is to lead Harapan to victory in the upcoming state polls.

Malaysiakini has contacted Lim for comment.

Lim served as Air Putih assemblyperson for three terms and was chief minister for two terms from 2008 to 2018.

The third term being pushed by his supporters will have several obstacles, including a two-term limit on the chief minister post implemented in 2018.

Legal experts opined that the law’s wording makes it retroactive.

Meanwhile, on a separate matter, Loke also declined to comment on former Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming suggesting that former Umno leader Khairy Jamaluddin join DAP to become a prospective prime minister candidate.

“That is Ong’s personal opinion,” the DAP secretary-general said.

Ong had made the suggestion during Khairy’s podcast yesterday, after the latter asked if he should join DAP, and if yes, why. - Mkini
