PETALING JAYA: The number of new Covid-19 cases increased by 3% last week to 4,963 from 4,817 recorded the week before, says health director-general Dr Radzi Abu Hassan.
Radzi said there was also an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases that required admission to public hospitals to a rate of 5.8 per 100,000 cases for the week ending April 29.
Meanwhile, overall bed occupancy for non-critical and intensive care unit (ICU) beds also rose by 3%.
“As of May 4, the utilisation of intensive care unit beds is at 15% while usage of non-critical beds is at 23%,” he said in a statement today.
Radzi reminded the people to take precautionary measures to curb the increase in Covid-19 infection cases.
“Always practise TRIIS (test, report, isolate, inform, seek) for those with symptoms,” he said.
“Those who test positive and are in high-risk categories should get treated with the antiviral Paxlovid at the nearest healthcare facility to reduce the risk of complications.”
People are also encouraged to get their first vaccine and booster doses to reduce the risk of infections, morbidity and death, especially among those in the high-risk categories. - FMT
