Noraini rejoins PAC as normal member

 

PARLIAMENT | Noraini Ahmad (BN-Parit Sulong) has been appointed as a member of the Public Accounts Committee - a powerful committee that she once chaired for a year between 2019 and 2020.

She was among the 12 new PAC members appointed by Parliament’s selection committee yesterday.

Two other notable appointments were former deputy minister Sim Tze Tzin and Ali Biju. As for Noraini (above), she was once a cabinet minister.

In a statement, PAC chairperson Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (Perikatan Nasional-Masjid Tanah) noted that the inclusion of a former minister, deputy ministers, and a former PAC chairperson in the new PAC was a plus.

“It proves that the position and credibility of the PAC are always viewed highly among MPs.

“(The collective) experience of the PAC members will definitely make PAC more credible and respected in ensuring every report published will have an impact on the government,” she said.

Mas Ermieyati and her deputy Wong Shu Qi (Pakatan Harapan-Kluang) were appointed in April.

The PAC is a permanent committee consisting of MPs who are tasked with checking government finances.

Committee members can collect an allowance for attending meetings and hearings.
