SRC International Sdn Bhd’s RM42 million lawsuit against former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak is set for full trial in 2025.
Counsel Kwan Will Sen said that the civil action by SRC International and its subsidiary Gandingan Mentari Sdn Bhd would be heard before judicial commissioner Raja Ahmad Mohzanuddin Shah Raja Mohzan at the High Court (civil jurisdiction) in Kuala Lumpur.
“The full trial dates in 2025 are Jan 13 to 17, Jan 20 to 24, Feb 12 to 14, Feb 17 to 21, and Feb 24 to 26,” the lawyer for SRC International and Gandingan Mentari told Malaysiakini.
Kwan added that the civil action was set for case management before the civil court this morning, and that the court has set Aug 4 this year for further case management for parties to update on the status of pre-trial directions.
When contacted by Malaysiakini, former finance minister Najib’s lawyer Alaistair Brandah Norman confirmed the full trial dates in 2025.
The present lawsuit is one among 22 civil actions launched by SRC International and Malaysian sovereign wealth fund 1MDB two years ago - targeting those who purportedly defrauded the two government-owned entities, whether knowingly or unknowingly.
Najib is currently serving a 12-year jail sentence following a criminal court corruption conviction against him in relation to RM42 million of funds from SRC International.
SRC International was a former subsidiary of 1MDB that later became fully-owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated (MOF Inc). MOF Inc also fully-owned 1MDB.
As part of its civil action against Najib, SRC International last year obtained a Mareva injunction from the civil court to prevent the former prime minister from dissipating assets up to RM42 million, pending disposal of the lawsuit.
Incidentally, in relation to 1MDB’s US$8 billion (RM35 billion) civil suit against him, Najib also faced a similar Mareva injunction order. - Mkini
