Using BN logo in state polls akin to political suicide, foretells PAS

For Pakatan Harapan parties to contest under the BN logo in Kelantan and Terengganu is nothing short of committing political suicide, suggested a PAS leader.

Responding to BN deputy chairperson Mohamad Hasan’s statement that the coalition is considering the request from its Harapan allies, PAS treasurer Iskandar Abdul Samad (above) said it showed that BN failed to read the pulse of voters.

Prior to this, Ketereh Amanah chief Che Ibrahim Mohamed suggested that Harapan, which lacked a strong foothold in Kelantan and Terengganu, uses the BN logo in the two states for the upcoming state elections.

“It seems that both these leaders have forgotten that the BN logo was rejected (in the last general election).

“Using the same logo would lead to the same result,” said Iskandar in a statement published in Harakah Online.

Therefore, the PAS leader said voters must reject BN and Harapan for not understanding the wishes of the people despite voters in the East Coast sending them an emphatic message in last November’s election.

“How can they be a caring state government if they do not understand the people’s wishes?

“Using the BN logo would also lead to questions on the existence of Harapan in the East Coast. It proves that Harapan does not have support in these parts,” he added.

Kelantan and Terengganu, both controlled by PAS, are among the six states which will hold a state election in the coming months.

Clean sweep

In the 2022 general election, PAS made a clean sweep of all the parliamentary seats in the two states, which witnessed the defeat of Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah in his stronghold of Gua Musang in Kelantan and former Terengganu menteri besar and state BN chief Ahmad Said.

In the 2018 national polls, when the state elections were held concurrently, PAS won 22 state seats in Terengganu compared to BN’s 10. Harapan failed to win a single seat.

In Kelantan, PAS won 37 Kelantan legislative assembly seats while BN won eight.

However, BN currently only has seven seats because Air Lanas assemblyperson Mustapa Mohamed later defected to Bersatu, which is now an ally of PAS in the Perikatan Nasional coalition. - Mkini
