Warisan will not be participating in the upcoming six-state elections, said its president Mohd Shafie Apdal.
He said this has been communicated to the unity government leadership.
"I have informed the (unity government) committee that we will not be fielding candidates, despite some efforts by Warisan in Kedah," he said, according to Astro Awani.
Warisan currently has one state assemblyperson in Peninsular Malaysia in the form of Teratai assemblyperson Lai Wai Chong.
Lai was elected on a Pakatan Harapan ticket before exiting the party in 2021 for personal reasons. He joined Warisan several months later.
Shafie (above) said Warisan wanted to stay out of the six state elections in order to demonstrate the party's sincerity towards the unity government.
He confirmed that Lai will not be defending his seat on a Warisan ticket.
He added that he has held discussions with Lai and Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Sharion on the matter.
During the 2022 general election, Warisan fielded 25 parliamentary candidates and 17 state candidates in Peninsular Malaysia. None managed to keep their deposit. - Mkini
