PETALING JAYA: Police have confirmed that a detainee escaped from the Dang Wangi police lockup in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, though they managed to rearrest him about four hours later.
According to Bernama, city police chief Shuhaily Zain said police personnel were taking the suspect to court to be charged when he escaped, but he did not explain how.
He said the incident happened at 9.40am yesterday and a manhunt was launched immediately.
“At 1.50pm, we managed to track him down and rearrested him,” he said.
Shuhaily said an investigation paper has been opened against the six policemen who were on duty at that time, and further action will be taken against them.
He said the investigation will determine if the policemen were negligent or if the suspect had some expertise that enabled him to escape. - FMT
