MP’s younger brother may be fielded in Selangor state seat

PETALING JAYA: The younger brother of V Ganabatirau may be fielded in the Kota Kemuning state seat where Ganabatirau served for one term, according to a Selangor DAP leader.

Ganabatirau was elected as assemblyman for Kota Kemuning in the 2018 general election, and became the Klang MP in the November 2022 parliamentary elections.

The state DAP leader, who asked to remain anonymous, said Ganabatirau’s brother Papparaidu has been doing his groundwork by engaging with grassroots.

Papparaidu, who is a Shah Alam councillor, has also been involved in community work and aid distribution, especially with helping flood victims.

Several residents’ associations have also sent letters to DAP in support of Papparaidu as a candidate, the party source said.

When contacted, Papparaidu played down the prospect of his candidacy. He said he had heard of such talk, “but will let the party make the final decision”.

He said a pressing issue for Kota Kemuning residents was traffic congestion, which he expects will get worse once the Rimbayu township is completed.

“We have to look at building bridges over the roundabout to ease traffic,” said Papparaidu, who is also the parliamentary liaison chairman for Kota Raja.

Voters in Selangor and five other states will elect new members of their state assemblies on Aug 12. - FMT
