KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested seven people and smashed a syndicate impersonating senior MACC and home ministry officers who offer to help “settle” cases under investigation.
According to a source, the syndicate had raked in hundreds of thousands of ringgit.
The seven Malaysians, aged between 20 and 30, were arrested at several locations over the past few days in raids conducted by MACC and the police, the source said.
MACC will seek a remand order against them at the Kota Kinabalu special corruption court tomorrow.
Sabah MACC director S Karunanithy confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. - FMT
