More reports lodged against Sanusi, reprimanded by spiritual leader

Several PKR members have lodged police reports against Kedah caretaker menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over his recent remarks that allegedly insulted the Selangor sultan.

At least three groups filed their reports against the PAS leader at the Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam police stations yesterday.

PKR Shah Alam info chief Suryamuizzudin Kamarudin claimed that ceramah should not be used as a platform to insult royal institutions.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain later said that the police have launched an investigation against Sanusi (above). The top cop told reporters that Sanusi's case is being investigated by a special task force that focuses on 3R cases.

Sanusi had allegedly insulted Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in choosing the state's menteri besar.

During the video of the speech, which has gone viral on social media, Sanusi can be seen comparing the Kedah sultan and his Selangor counterpart, whom he alleged had chosen a "lousy" menteri besar.

'Racist and seditious'

Separately, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng also lodged a police report against Sanusi today over the latter’s claims that non-Muslims make up the majority of people arrested for giving and receiving bribes.

In his report, Lim described Sanusi’s statement as “racist” and seditious.

“I hope the police do not waste any time and take legal action (against Sanusi) swiftly,” the DAP leader said in a statement.

In an episode of the Keluar Sekejap podcast, Sanusi claimed there was data that showed that non-Muslims make up the majority of those arrested for giving and receiving bribes.

He said this when asked how Perikatan Nasional plans to garner support from non-Muslims in the upcoming state elections when one of its leaders - PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang - had previously accused non-Muslims and non-bumiputera of being the “root of corruption”.

Hadi had previously made the accusations in August last year, which PAS leaders then backed by citing a “survey” by a local university.

However, while the study found that 73.4 percent of convicted bribe-givers were non-Malays, its findings on bribe recipients were the opposite.

According to the study’s lead author Christine Chong Siew Pyng, she said her study found about 82 percent of convicted bribe solicitors or takers were Malays.

Sanusi said the claims about non-Malays’ role in graft were in response to an alleged DAP narrative that Malay leaders were corrupt.

'Be mindful when making speeches'

Meanwhile, PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin has told Sanusi to be mindful when making speeches, especially when elections are around the corner.

"Sanusi, or any other leader for that matter, should compose themselves better.

"When we are on the stage, it can be difficult (to censor ourselves) and these issues crop up," Free Malaysia Today quoted Hashim saying, in reference to statements that touch on race, religion, and royalty (3R).

He further admitted that Sanusi can be a "little blunt" in his speeches.
